Our out of town family was treated to a private “concert” this morning as Will played the pipe organ for those who haven’t had a chance to hear him this last year. Even Baby Peter got to hear the mighty Widor and some powerful hymns today. It was a truly happy time together.
Here are just a few seconds of what we heard today—a joyful sound!

To see a youngster playing the pipe organ…deserves a reblog. Enjoy!

Very good! What church is this? He should go down and play on the organ at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran on Vliet. I’m sure he would enjoy playing that organ and filling that beautiful space with music!

Will takes lessons at St. Joseph Chapel in Milwaukee. It isn’t as easy as you think to get organ lessons – I called around and had apathetic or negative responses from several churches. Finally, Tom suggested an organist he has played with for years. I doubted that she took beginners, and I was wrong! Even thought she’s one of the most respected organists in the city, she’s first and foremost a teacher, and someone who had an interest in developing young talent for God’s glory. It’s a privilege for Will to study with her. Will loves to try new organs around town. He even stopped in at the Irish Cultural Heritage Center that owns the old Congregational Church downtown on Wisconsin Avenue. They let him have some fun with the now very decrepit organ there. Having just played the newly refurbished Schantz organ at Gesu at Marquette, he said it was a bit of a challenge playing the old organ that accompanied the Congregational Church since the 20′s onward.
