Ole Bull was a very famous Norwegian violinist and composer born in the early 19th century. He was a fascinating man and one of the world’s greatest violinists. Here is his arrangement of a lovely Norwegian folk number. The name of the piece is Sigrid’s Song. My Great-grandmother (at left) was also from Norway and her name was Sigrid.
Her family emigrated from Norway to Chicago in the 19th century where she eventually met her future husband, Israel Olson. Her daughter Norma, my grandmother, was very musical and also played the violin. Here is “Sigrid’s Song.”

Lovely haunting melody – and I love those vintage photos! So wonderful – I wonder if they ever imagined people seeing them in 2012?
